Lydia Ko makes the cut at her debut US Women’s Open
The world number one amateur Lydia Ko made it to the final two rounds of her debut appearance in the US Women’s Open, after carding an even-par 72 in the second round, on Friday, July 6, 2012.
The 15-year-old Gulf Harbour golfer got off to a disappointing start with bogey on the first hole. However, she bounced back strongly with a birdie on the very next hole.
In total, she managed to record four birdies against two bogeys and a double bogey to settle seven strokes behind the pace set by Suzann Pettersen. Ko currently has a two-round score of two-over par 146.
She looked quite comfortable with her performance on, day two following a disappointing start on Thursday, when she carded a two-over par 74.
According to her, she felt improvements in her game, especially the accuracy of her shots. She managed to hit 79 per cent of the fairways along with 61 per cent of the greens in regulation.
"It was much better today," she said."The first three holes [in round one] my hands were shaking I was so nervous and I was trying to line up my putts but I couldn't get it straight. I made a birdie on 11. I hit it to 12 feet past the hole, my putting was
rolling well today. I made bogeys on 12 and 13 yesterday and was happy to make pars on both of them today".
"I made birdie on 15 and then double on 17 and it kind of went down but I made birdie on two and I was putting well then. I shot one under on the front nine which was my back nine so I was pretty happy".
While talking to the media, she told that the Blackwolf Run Golf Club in Wisconsin, the venue for this year’s second women’s major, is the longest course that she has ever played on in her career.
Therefore, she had to use some extra power while making the shots. Moreover, it was somewhat difficult to make birdie chances, as Blackwolf is considered as one of the toughest golf courses around the world.
