Lydia Ko seizes second-round lead at New Zealand Women's Open
Lydia Ko was more thrilled on the second day of New Zealand Women’s Open at Christchurch, New Zealand, as she managed to share the lead by scoring a 3-under 69.
The New Zealand Women’s Open saw most of the Kiwi players take advantage of the home crowd. Ko too appeared to be in high spirits, as she made good strokes that ensured a lead on the second day.
Speaking of her stunning performance, Ko said that she knew that playing among experienced players was not easy, but she tried to do her best and gained what she had been seeking.
She further said that the course of Christchurch presented tough competition, as there were several holes that proved tricky for her.
However, she said, she was in a comfortable position most of the day, making calculated putts and swings.
Ko kicked off the round in an impressive style. She not only had to battle tough contenders, but also strong winds that made putting way more difficult than she had anticipated.
She, however, held her nerve and made the most of her unique putting skills. She said that she had mapped out her plans and implemented them on the course.
“The goal for today was five under but I don’t feel like I didn’t achieve what I wanted to because I played good and I putted good so I am happy,” said the Kiwi star.
Ko was lucky, as the spectators spurred her on by appreciating her phenomenal game. The Christchurch course was full of local crowds.
According to the reports, there were over 4000 people present on the second day.
She stunned her fans when she opened the round by reeling off a stunning birdie.  Although she faltered on some holes, losing momentum, she bounced back to consolidate her position on the leaderboard.
She made a bogey on the 3rd, but quickly offset the impact by shooting a birdie on the next hole.
“I was like 12th or something overnight, so it’s good to be up with the leaders,” the young New Zealander said. “I’ll try hard tomorrow and, hopefully, play good like I did at New South Wales”.
