Lying, Cheating, Stealing Co-Worker!! ?

I'm gonna keep a running tally of how much this lying, cheating, stealing co-worker of mine steals from me when it comes to our lunch tab. A little background info. Everyday we have lunch and a different person pays for it on different days. We keep track of who owes what on this office whiteboard. We round up the amount owed to the nearest dollar.

I'll show you what she hasn't paid for so far and ripped me off for in the past week. *I'll continually update it. It goes back a couple months, but because I'm new, I just let bygones be bygones.

8/14/2008. My turn to buy lunch. Her meal was 7.75 w/o tax and delivery. With tax and delivery, I still only rounded it up to $9 and swallowed the extra so that she wouldn't have to pay $10

Total: $9

8/14/2008. I bought some beers because she asked me to buy some beers for the few people in the office that day(bosses were gone). Split up, it only cost $2/person. She never paid me for that despite the other co-worker involved did. Didn't put it up on board because I thought, okay, beer is excusable

Total: $11

8/18/2008. She bought lunch. My meal w/ tax and everything should have totaled no more than $6. She erases her whole $9 debt. I can't call her out on it because I'm the youngest member of the staff and the boss likes her.

Total:$6

8/20/2008. She bought lunch. My sandwich is $6 w/o tax. She writes on the board that I owe her $8. Now if my math is correct, since there was no delivery charge and with tax and rounding up, it should $7 tops.

Total: $7

Okay, it's not alot. But this girl is nickel and dimeing me! And I can't say anything because she's the boss assistant and I just joined a couple months back while she's been here for several years. I'll keep you all up to date.

Just wanted to vent. Let's all discuss.

  1. I would talk to her without making a big deal of it. If she erases the debt, then ask her something like "Did you pay that back? I don't remember that..." She probably doesn't want to lie outright. And note the little debts too. That's what the board is for, right? Don't mind if she's the senior employee. If your calculations are right, then she's in the wrong. Plus, she's probably ripped off some other people too, so you could ask around.

  2. Pack from home. Then she can't ask you to buy for her, and neither should she buy for you.

  3. I don't know ho started this littlelunch system board you guys have. I find it a little silly. Obviously,if you are a person who is going to be petty and want to keep the score even then you are going to have problems. A system like that just wont work for everyone. I suggest next time brown bag it.
