  1. You should come clean.  It will show you are mature enough to admit when you are wrong.  Don't listen to this BS about everyone lies.  I know I did not when I joined.  If they do find out you lied, then you are done.  the Coast Guard does not play around.  They are the hardest service to get into, so if that is what you really want, don't s***w then over.  Lying will just get you in worse trouble.

  2. If you're not on meds and it's not a serious case, it shouldn't be any problem getting in as a Coastie.  However, it would behoove you to mention it to the recruiter.  He's on your side and will advise you weather or not you should bring it up at MEPS.

I basically boils down to, if there's no record then it never happened.

  3. If you've never been on medication it's no big deal whether you come clean or not.

  4. I'm a Coast Guard Recruiter.  I don't want my applicants to lie to me, I don't lie to them, and I don't tell them to lie.

I recommend you talk to your recruiter, the sooner the better.  If you were my applicant and you came clean, I'd be annoyed that you lied in the first place, but if you didn't and it came out later, I'd DQ you for lack of integrity.  The Coast Guard core values are Honor, Respect and Devotion to Duty.  By lying to your recruiter you are already showing a lack of the first two.

  5. EVERYONE LIES!

And they know this. After you swear in. go to the doctor and get examined. You can be ADD and be in the service. Don't worry.

  6. Until you raise your hand and sign a paper at the same time, you're not in trouble. Come clean NOW though, because it can haunt you later on. I personally don't know anyone who isn't slightly ADD. My wife had one of my sons checked while I was at sea and when I returned she said that I had the ADD, not the kids. If you're worried about this, you'll do fine in the military. Good luck to you.

  7. I am a former Marine Corps Gunnery Sergeant and to answer your question, I would have to say YES, tell them, because if they find out after you are in the service you can and may be charged with fraudulent enlistment.  I would tell the recruiter the truth, that you were being tested for possible ADHD which is a very minor disorder and can even be dyslexia.   Don't compound the issue, because lying about it only hurts your cause further.  Tell him or her exactly what the psychologist said.    When they say "seeing or have you seen a psychologist, they certainly mean for something more serious than ADHD.  Like pulling the wings off of flies or harming small animals and the like, this usually indicates something much worse than ADHD.  If you have ADHD you are in good company, President John F.Kennedy had this disorder as did former VP Rockefeller (dyslexia), Whoopi Goldberg has it as does 75% of the Hollywood crowd. Most people with photographic memories have ADHD, and most if not all artist are ADHD.  I don't know the author of this book, but if you can find it, it will put your mind to rest about ADHD.  The title of the book is "So I Am Not Lazy, Dumb and Stupid After All".  And by the way you will find more people with ADHD in the military than any other place, because ADHD people are risk takers and enjoy the adrenline rush. One of the first things you will notice is the number of people drinking coffee, they are simply self-medicating and don't realize it, but most of the amphetamine type drugs they treat ADHD with have the same effect as a large, strong cup of coffee. By the way, I wold questrion your doctor about ADHD, there is not such thing as a slight case of ADHD, andit won't hurt you to have it in the military service in any case.  There are however a lot of misinformed people out there who might call you learning disabled, thats not true at all, you just don't read and understand the way they do, and you are probably brighter in the IQ arena than they are.
