Lynnette Brooky and Kym Larratt make it through Ricoh British Women’s Open Championship
Lynnette Brooky, the 43-year-old New Zealand golfer has qualified yet again for the Ricoh British Women’s Open Championship. She qualified for the 18-hole qualifying event last year and has done it again to be a part of the field at Carnoustie Championship
Links.
Brooky played with definite poise on her front nine and pulled in three birdies right after she made that run for the back nine. Having won four times on the Ladies European Tour, Brooky is one of the seasoned contenders on the tour and a victory at the
major event will ensure her tour card for the rest of the season. Having won four times on the Ladies European Tour, Brooky is one of the seasoned contenders on the tour and a victory at the major event will ensure her tour card for the rest of the season.
Second-year Ladies European Tour pro Kym Larratt posted a dazzling 68 pulling in the first under-70 round at the difficult course and is now confident that she will make it all the way to the major event. Kym was supported by her father caddying for her
and being a Senior professional player himself, the duo gathered all their experience to shoot the best round so far.
“This is the fourth time I’ve tried to get through to the Ricoh Women’s British Open – twice as an amateur and twice as a pro – and I’m so excited that it’s just about certain that a 68 will get me there at last,” said Kym. “Dad’s actually got a sore back
and shoulder but he says the straps on the golf bag hold his back in a good posture. He led the qualifiers at Hillside for the 1983 men’s Open at Royal Birkdale so I think that has helped to inspire me as well.”
Former British women’s amateur champion Kelly Tidy of Royal Birkdale had a disappointing day at the Qualifying Round after she fell for a one-over, 72 and will not be able to make it into the field. Sarah Hassan, the Welsh player who was the top performer
in last year’s Qualifying Round, also failed to qualify for the Ricoh British Open Championship after falling for a disappointing 79.
Canada’s Samantha Richdale, Sweden’s Louise Larsson and Sweden’s Isabella Ramsay also performed well to ensure a berth at the event while Denmark’s Lisa Sorensen pulled in a stunning show to confirm her place after out swinging no fewer than eight players
on the Playoff hole.
This is the first time the event has been brought over to the prestigious Carnoustie Golf Links and will give a definite boost to the stature of the event. Carnoustie has hosted the Open Championship for a staggering seven times including the last one held
here in 2007.
