http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-Lyonnais-c40130 coach, Claude Puel, was disappointed after his side lost against PSG in the Ligue 1 fixture on Sunday, 17 April. He stated that his team deserved a lot better after a brilliant second-half performance.
Lyon lost 1-0 to PSG when the centre-defender, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Zoumana-Camara-c38101, scored the decider in the 75th minute. The defeat has put a dent on the club’s title hopes as they sit in third place with 53 points, six points adrift of
leaders, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lille-OSC-c39800.
The manager expressed his frustration on the loss and admitted that a draw would have been a fair result for both sides. He stated that both the sides had contrasting performances in both the sessions and Les Gones didn’t deserve
to lose the game.
Puel admitted Lyon struggled in the first-half but insisted that there was a huge improvement in the performance after the interval. He rued the missed chances from the forwards and claimed that conceding on the counter was a huge
blow.
“I can't deny that I'm a bit frustrated after this loss, especially after our strong second-half performance. A draw would have been a better result and I'm disappointed that we were beaten. We really struggled to get into the
game before the interval. We really improved in the second-half and it was a real blow to concede against the run of play,” the Frenchman was quoted as saying.
The tactician revealed that the race for UEFA Champions League qualification next year is still on with PSG and Rennes providing competition for the third place and also claimed that the League title will be decided between Lille
and Olympique Marseille. The former Monaco mid-fielder stated that anything can happen in the remaining seven games of the season and remained optimistic on the club’s standing at the end of the season.
“Nothing has been decided yet, but we missed a great chance to do ourselves a favour. It will be a very close fight. The title race seems to be a two-horse race between Lille and Olympique Marseille at the moment, but anything
can still happen,” Claude Puel concluded.
Lyon have not won the French Ligue 1 since the 2007-08 season. However, before 2007, they had a winning streak of seven times.
