Lyon boss targets win over Schalke in Champions League
Olympique Lyonnais manager Claude Puel says that he is looking to take all three points away from his side's UEFA Champions League clash with German outfit Schalke on Wednesday 24 November.
The sides meet in a group stage game that could see French giants Lyon confirm their place in the last 16 of the competition if they draw or win at the Veltins-Arena.
A win would see Puel's men confirm first place in Group B and allow them to avoid playing another of the group winners as they aim to improve upon their semi-final appearance from last season.
Puel will hoping to build on his side's victory against Racing Club de Lens in Ligue 1, where they won 3-1 despite being behind at half-time. While his side face a crucial domestic match against Paris
Saint-Germain on Sunday 28 November, Puel insisted that he and his men are fully focused on the match against Schalke.
He told reporters: “We come to simply to win the game, I said that against Benfica, and I repeat here. We are determined to return with three points. If we have the opportunity to qualify, it must be seized.
“It's a completely different team than in the first leg. They are a team who are ready and who have character.”
Schalke have won two and drawn one of their last three Bundesliga games, including a 4-0 victory over fellow Champions League participants Werder Bremen, to move up to 15th in the table.
Lyon triumphed 1-0 in their home game against Schalke in September, through a 21st-minute strike by Michel Bastos.
Lyon are at the top of their Champions League qualifying group with nine points from a possible 12. Schalke have seven, Portuguese outfit Benfica have six and Hapoel Tel Aviv trail with one.
