Lyon coach Claude Puel hints at leaving the club after current season of Ligue 1
French Ligue 1 club Lyon might want to consider a few names for the coaching role after their current coach Claude Puel hinted towards his exit come the end of the ongoing 2010-11 season.
Puel took charge of Lyon in 2008 after managing the clubs like Lille and Monaco. He was a manager at Lille for six years before signing a four-year contract with Les Gones. Reports suggest that there could be some reason which has not yet been disclosed
by the club officials but it certainly has forced the manager to think about his position at the club.
These reports have also been justified by the Club President Jean-Michel Aulas. The President though himself is not yet clear about Puel’s future at the club.
“The chairman is right with his comments, I could decide at the end of the season to stop working as a coach or opt to move elsewhere,” Puel stated.
Puel is an experienced campaigner and very well knows the requirements of his job but the 49-year-old Frenchman has not been able to help his side achieve any major silverware since he became the manager. He has only succeeded in taking his team to the semi-finals
of the UEFA Champions League in 2010 for the first time in the club’s history.
Lyon are currently sitting 4th in the League table with 41 points and are just 4 points behind the leaders Lille. They are still alive in the Champions League where they drew the first leg of the fixture against Real Madrid and will now travel
away to take on the Los Blancos on 16 March, 2011 for the second leg.
“However, I'm focused on what's happening at Lyon for now. We have some great matches coming up and I'm looking forward to the challenges ahead,” Puel further added.
The French powerhouse will be hoping to get through to the last eight of the Champions League and at the same time would try to provide a serious challenge for the title.
Both the club and Manager could see a change in their fortunes provided Lyon can win the tightly fought Ligue 1 title.
