Lyon responds to criticism over technique with 5-68 against Windies – Cricket News Update
Off-spinner http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nathan-Michael-Lyon-c78822 has hit back at critics who questioned his technique prior to Australia’s second Test of the Frank-Worrell trophy against the West Indies, currently being played at the Queen's Park Oval in Port of Spain, Trinidad, with a 5 wicket-haul
on the 3rd day of the match.
Lyon made an impressive Test debut against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 in 2011, when he took 5 for 34, but his following appearances in the national squad were limited.
He was included in Australia’s squad for the Test series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 late last year, during which he took 7 scalps in the three Tests he played. However, his performances in subsequent matches were below par. He was brought into the squad for the Commonwealth
Bank series final against Sri Lanka on March 8, during which he managed 0 for 36, and he took just 1 for 41 in the 3rd ODI against the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 during the limited overs leg of the current tour.
He was the prime spinner of choice for the Test series, but his 1 for 113 in the first Test of the series drew criticism from former Aussie pacer Geoff Lawson and Windies’ legendary offspinner http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lancelot-Richard-Gibbs-c72187, both of whom expressed reservations regarding the
right-armer’s technique.
However, the 24-year-old claimed that he was ignorant of the fact that there had been any criticism regarding his bowling, which he did not consider important enough to consider.
“Everyone's got their different opinion,” Lyon said.
“I'm not interested in what http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Geoffrey-Francis-Lawson-c58815 has to say, really. I'm working with my coaches and my close people I talk to and trust, I didn't even know anyone was talking about my technique,” he added.
Any criticism the veterans might have had was nullified as Lyon went on to claim 5 for 68 during the 3rd day of the ongoing 2nd Test of the series – the second 5-wicket haul of his Test career. His performance reduced the Windies to
252 for 9, leaving them trailing by 59 runs with one wicket remaining.
“I'm happy with the way the ball's coming out. I always look to having ways to improve but quite happy. I've got no need to complain at all,” he said regarding his performances.
