Olympique Lyonnais management and players have chosen to keep their feet on the ground despite going on top of the Ligue 1 standings for the first time this season following a win over Stade de Reims
After winning 3-0 against Stade de Reims on Sunday, Olympique Lyonnais are the new leaders of the 2012/2013 Ligue 1 Championnat and have a solid one-point lead over second-placed FC Girondins de Bordeaux with a game in hand.
Ever opportunistic, Remi Garde’s charges seized the opportunity presented to them by Paris Saint-Germain and Olympique de Marseille’s respective slip-ups to lead the Ligue 1 summit, a place which indeed is reminiscent to the first decade of the current millennium
when http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-Lyonnais-c40130 dominated French football.
Shy of resources but with abundant faith in their potential, Lyon have everything that it takes to win the Ligue 1 Championelle after almost four years. However, the question still remains that whether this Lyon side is better equipped than its predecessors
to remain in pole position and give its fans a title come the end of the current campaign.
While talking to OLTV, Remi Garde termed the first place as anecdotal and said that things might get even better for the side once the injured players return to the fray.
“This is the first place, but anecdotal. We have a level of trust but it is not enough. I am satisfied that my team has produced so far. We have the willingness to move forward while being serious.”
And, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Bruno-c8098 Genesio, the assistant coach echoed Garde’s sentiments by saying that hard work is rewarded and that the team is happy to be in the current position.
Bafetimbi Gomis on the other hand, has a more philosophical and humble view of things. The French striker says that in past, many teams on top of the table early on in campaigns have not even finished in a European position so it is too early to talk about
titles.
“It is still too early. It has happened in the past that top teams during the season did not even qualify for the Europa League in the end. We do not expect to remain leaders throughout the campaign but the goal is to stay in touch with the leaders and to
be better positioned for the final sprint.”
With Sparta Prague to play in the Europa League this Thursday and then a meeting with Toulouse a few days later, Lyon have a tight schedule so taking things one at a time is the order for the day and anything that comes after that, should be taken as a blessing.
