Lyon vs. Real Madrid – UEFA Champions League Review (Part 1)
An outstanding goal from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Karim-Benzema-c20350 helped Real Madrid score an away goal against Lyon in Stade de Gerland. Even though the match ended in a 1-1 draw, the Los Blancos still managed to take an away goal to the Santiago Bernabeu as the first leg of
the knockout stages finished in the UEFA Champions League. The Frenchman Karim Benzema scored a crucial goal against his former club to help his current club stay stable in the UEFA Champions League.
Karim Benzema did not start for Real Madrid as the game kicked off in the home ground of Lyon. The Frenchman came on during the 65th minute and made a sudden impact by scoring a goal in the very next minute. With an away strike
the Spaniards are now standing tall in the tournament as they now have the advantage over Lyon. The French club now needs to score at least one goal away from home to win the two legged tie.
Even though Karim Benzema made sudden impact to score the first goal of the game, Bafetimbi Gomis scored a late equalizer to give his side a chance in the match. Despite the fact that Lyon have drawn the game against Jose Mourinho’s men, Real Madrid
are still considered to be the favourites to qualify for the quarter finals.
The host team kicked the game off and took advantage of the home ground and home crowd. Lyon did not only dominate possession but also created the first chance on goal. However, the effort from long range as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Yoann-Gourcuff-c37416 tried his luck from distance.
The first half was not very action-packed and there were barely chances created by both the teams http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/AS-Real-c38478 Madrid were trying to defend away from home and Lyon were scared of the extraordinary Real Madrid attack.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michel-Bastos-c25461 and Yoann Gourcuff were the two players who had good chances on goal during the first half. The two of them created chances for each other and tried their luck on goal. Even though both of them looked to be extraordinary during the first
half it was actually the Real Madrid goalkeeper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Iker-Casillas-c16815 who came under pressure and often lost the ball on dangerous occasions. The Spanish goal stopper made errors twice during the first half that allowed Lyon to breach the defensive walls of Real Madrid
but the French team couldn’t really take advantage of it and couldn’t find the back of the net.
Michel Bastos got past two Real Madrid players on the right flank and crossed the ball into the danger zone. Even though the ball seemed to be finding the safe hands of Iker Casillas, it actually deflected off his body and fell right at the feet of
Bafetimbi Gomis. Gomis had the target wide open in front of him but his effort couldn’t find the target and was blasted away and a wonderful opportunity was wasted by Lyon.
