Lyon vs. Real Madrid – UEFA Champions League Review (Part 3)
The goal did not come without the help of the best playmakers in Real Madrid – http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Cristiano-Ronaldo-c9629 and Mesut Ozil. The Portuguese winger and the German midfielder both combined well in the midfield and after a fabulous one-two Ozil played a wonderful
through ball towards http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Hugo-Lloris-c16408 charged the Real Madrid man, he easily slipped the ball in between his legs to score the first goal of the game.
Lyon were simply disappointed after the first goal and even though it looked to be coming, they still tried to defend and well and failed. Real Madrid had an away goal advantage and Lyon simply knew deep inside how hard it was going to be for them
to score a goal against Jose Mourinho’s men in the second leg which is going to take place in the Santiago Bernabeu. The Brazilian centre back Cris tried to slide in between the ball and the goal to save the day for the French side but he was just a second
late and couldn’t really reach the ball on time. Sad for the home supporters but the goal stood and the score line was 0-1 to Real Madrid.
Right when Lyon looked to be totally out of the game and all the players looked disappointed after the first goal, they saw a light at the end of the tunnel. With only seven minutes left in full time, Lyon won a free kick with the help of Jeremy Toulalan.
Toulalan fell right outside the box and allowed Lyon to take advantage with only seven minutes remaining in the referee W. Stark’s watch.
It was http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Yoann-Gourcuff-c37416 who stood over the ball to take the free kick. The supporters eyed their hero and cheered him up to find the back of the net. The Frenchman struck the shot but it only managed to hit the wall. However, the deflected shot found
the Brazilian centre back Cris right in front of goal. Cris headed the ball towards Bafetimbi Gomis. The Lyon man did not waste any time and being only 6 yards out, the Frenchman took his shot on goal. From such a close range even the Spanish number 1 Iker
Casillas couldn’t block the efforts and Real Madrid were made to pay as they slacked off towards the end of the game. Lyon managed to equalize right before the end and they didn’t let Real Madrid take a full one goal advantage to the second leg.
With the game coming to an end, Lyon tried their best to grab a winner. The home crowd was behind the Lyon stars who tried to throw men forward to find a late winner. Even though the winner was to be very undeserving, Real Madrid still managed to evade
it through time wasting techniques. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Iker-Casillas-c16815 was shown a yellow card during the 90th minute of the game because of time wastage.
The game came to an end with Real Madrid taking an away goal with them to the second leg that is to take place in the Santiago Bernabeu. Lyon have always won a two legged tie against Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League. Can Lyon pull off a miracle
against such a magical and strong Real Madrid side; especially under a coach like Jose Mourinho? Well that is a question that only time can answer.
