Lyoto Machida on fight against GSP: It would be an interesting karate duel – UFC News
Former UFC light heavyweight titlist Lyoto Machida believes a fight against welterweight titlist Georges St-Pierre would be enthralling for fans. In an interview with Globo, Machida came up saying that he would be ready to fight GSP any day, and that he
would start training in ten days if the bout is scheduled at the eleventh hour.
“It would be an interesting karate duel but I don't know at what weight we would do it. If it is at 185lbs, I will go for it,” said Machida.
Believe it or not, no matter what Machida says, the match is not in the mind of president Dana White, who is looking forward to putting GSP against middleweight champion Anderson Silva.
“Where the f*ck did that come from? Him (GSP) and Anderson (Silva) makes all the sense in the world. Him and Machida makes no sense whatsoever,” said White previously when asked if Machida and GSP can go head to head.
According to White, there is nothing confirmed for Machida yet but chances are that he would go against Dan Henderson. It should be noted here that Henderson and Machida both are the top contenders for UFC light heavyweight title. However, the title shot
has been awarded to The American Gangster Chael Sonnen, who will be making his comeback against Jones at The Ultimate Fighter season 17.
When asked what is next for Machida, White asserted, “We're still working it all out.”
It is clear that White is not in the mood to put Machida against GSP. Obviously, White is looking forward to make super-fights happen and Machida vs. GSP is so not that. Even though Machida says he will be ready to fight GSP any day, White knows ‘The Dragon’
always backs off when offered a fight at the last minute.
Last month, White offered Machida to fight against Jones at UFC 152 but he refused. Machida’s reason for declining the showdown was that he cannot train for a fight against the champion in just two weeks. In other words, Machida declined one of the biggest
opportunities of his MMA career back then. s
