Lyric Street set to win John Smith’s Northumberland Plate (Heritage Handicap)
The Ed Dunlop-trained bay gelding, Lyric Street, is all set to adorn his portfolio with the title of the John Smith’s Northumberland Plate (Heritage Handicap) that will take place at Newcastle racecourse on Saturday, June 30.
The high-stakes Class 2 contest over 2 mile and 19 yards is scheduled to begin at 3:20 (GMT). Pursuing the prize cheque worth £86,226, he will run against 19 competitors including the superstar Ile De Re.
It is for the first time in his 6-race career that the son of Hurricane Run out of Elle Danzig will test his racing capabilities at Newcastle. Earlier, he has performed at Newmarket, York and Haydock.
After making debut in Christine Kilker Memorial E B F Maiden Stakes (Colts & Geldings) (Div II) with third position in October 2010, the young and energetic horse went behind the scene for at least six months.
The Gestut Wittekindshof-bred gelding staged a marvellous comeback on May 12, 2011 in Simon Gibson Maiden Stakes, finishing first over 1 mile and 2 furlongs.
Following this glaring conquest, the brilliant gelding grabbed 5th position in £150, 000 Tattersalls Millions 3-Y-O Cup on June 25 and finished 6th against 18 rivals in Betfred Melrose Stakes (Handicap) on August 20.
The punters granted the gelding 7-2 favourite tag for the Stainless Wire Handicap of September 24 but he could not be able to perform up to the mark and finished 10 in the 16-runner event over 1 mile and 6 furlongs.
Since the dawn of 2012, Lyric Street has participated in just one event entitled as Sportingbet Jorvik Stakes (Handicap) so far, finishing 9th against 14 contestants.
The gelding had some tough triaging sessions during the last two weeks. It is expected that he will unleash matured and calculated performance at Newcastle in a bid to put second victory on board.
However, his march towards the finish line will not be easy as there lay many arduous challenges over there. The only thing that can lead him to triumph is constant pace and unbreakable stamina.
So let us enjoy the mega marathon and see how Lyric Streets sings on his way towards the finish line. Good luck to the horse.
