Lyric of Light and Fallen for You to lock horns once again in the Fillies Mile at Newmarket
The two 2-year-old fillies, Lyric of Light and Fallen for You, will take on each other yet again in the epic battle for an automatic fee-paid berth in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf, with the paid travel allowance to Churchill Downs in November.
The Group 1 Fillies Mile is part of the “Win and You’re In” Breeders’ Cup series, and the two juvenile fillies will engage in battle on 23 September, 2011, at Newmarket in England.
Mahmood Al Zarooni trained Lyric of Light and the John Gosden trained Fallen for You previously met each other in Group 2 Barrett Steel May Hill Stakes for fillies at Doncaster racecourse on 9 September, 2011, over a distance of 1 mile on a ground labelled
good.
Lyric of Light was sent as the 9 to 1 choice, and Fallen for You as the 2 to 1 favourite to win the race.
Frankie Dettori rode Lyric of Light and held her up in the rear and the same tactics were used by jockey William Buick to keep Fallen for You off the pace.
It was steady going for both the fillies 3 furlongs out, but with 2 furlongs to go, Frankie Dettori mildly urged Lyric of Light to get it on, as the pair started tracking leaders.
William Buick gambled and kept Fallen for You off pace, even with 2 furlongs to go, and waited to hit the 1 furlong mark, while Lyric of Light completed the chase and led.
Fallen for You got challenged and was carried to the right side by jockey William Buick, entering the final furlong and the ultimate duel went underway.
The daughter of Street Cry, Lyric of Light was soon ridden off and was also hung to the right, approaching the final furlong.
Meanwhile, William Buick got her filly under a solid drive but it all looked one pace as Lyric of Light hit the wire ahead of Fallen for You by a neck.
The fortnight old rivalry will reignite in the Group 1 Fillies Mile, but this time there will be a lot more at stake.
