Lyric of Light strikes a straight third win after claiming the Shadwell Fillies’ Mile at Newmarket
It is almost as if Godolphin’s Lyric of Light just refuses to lose any race at all and is ever keen to keep the record consistent, not settling for anything less than a first position. She posted the Shadwell Fillies’ Mile at Newmarket to her record as being
the most recent of her victories.
She ran thrice this season and won all the three titles.
It was the EBF “Respledent Glory” Russian Standard “Platinum” Maiden where Lyric of Light won against William Haggas’s Diala, Sir Michael Stoute’s Shada and John Gosden’s See Emily Play, after which she won all the races that she participated in.
Diala was the runner-up in the race while Shada came third.
On 9th September, Lyric of Light won the Barrett Steel May Hill Stakes (Group 2) for fillies in a field of eight.
Initially in the race, Lyric of Light stayed in the rear, making progress over three furlongs out, going onto tracking the leaders two furlongs out and then leading for one furlong out but was soon ridden over and had to rush for the lead towards the final
furlong after which she kept intact with her speed.
Lyric of Light, yet again, made news on 23rd September in the Shadwell Fillies’ Mile Group 1.
It was a challenging combination of talent that day but the more prominent nominations included Roger Varian’s Firdaws, John Gosden’s Fallen for You and A P O’Brien’s Devotion
Frankie Dettori stayed stable towards the rear, pulled up well over three furlong out, made an effort by getting quick to chase the leader one furlong out, took a right swing and soon went into the final furlong to finish before anyone else could ride over.
Dettori said, "She's a superstar of a filly and only does what she has to do. She got very unbalanced coming down into the dip, but I managed to collar Jamie (Spencer) in the last 50 yards. She's a very good filly”.
Samitra with Jamie Spencer was the runner-up and Firdaws stood out to be the third in the race.
"We'll have to talk to Sheikh Mohammed about whether she runs again this season, I suspect not, but there is always the Breeders' Cup to think about”, Frankie told.
The filly's connections have even planned to race her in next year’s Guineas as this race reflected the capacity of the filly to contest for the Guineas.
Her victory has made their ideas go all over the place as they still have to decide if she will be running the Breeders’ Cup this season or not. It would still be desirable for the connections to keep the record as straight as it already is.
