  1. modern and contemporary are not the same thing!!!

    sorry that really annoys me when people say that!

    Well i dont know what lyrical is but modern is very soft and graceful, wheras contemorary is often sharp and strong, but not always.

    Contemporary gets confused with moden often because they are both a cross of ballet and jazz but contemporary is more jazz. It gets confused because it does not have to be sharp and strong and well weird. It can be a story dance where the music tells a story and the dance explains it or generally it is to music without lyrics with movements that fit the music.

    modern is always soft and graceful and is just a cross between ballet and jazz though more so ballet.

    They are very similar though like two sides of the same genre.

  2. well modern is more of a theatrical dance that just kinda takes away ballet and is more innner feeling.

    lyrical is like a mix of jazz and ballet techniques and uses more inner and passionate emotion.

    contemporary uses more of groundwork and strengthening of  the body, increased flexibility, and sometimes even yoga & pilates.

    hope this helped clear up some confusion! ;}

  3. lyrical involves more ballet and is a little more graceful and balletish while contemporary is more like jazz & ballet mixed up together. i'm pretty sure modern & contemporary is the same thing.

    I think modern and contemporary are the same thing under different names (I could be wrong). Modern is very creative and some people see it as a mix between jazz and ballet styles. Lyrical is more graceful and is more concerned with the interpretation of the lyrics (hence the name!) - it will often try to tell a story. In terms of range of movement,the styles are very similar.

  4. Lyrical tries to tell a story, like recently I did a dance to the song I Can Only Imagine by MercyMe and when it says 'what my eyes will see' we were standing in a line and then we snapped our head towards the audience on the word see. It also has a lot of ballet incorporated in it.

    Modern is less graceful and it has more jazz moves and more things in parallel, rather than turned out. I think of it as a ballet and jazz combo, but not wearing shoes.

    Contemporary is definitely towards the jazz end of the spectrum, kind of the medium between modern and jazz. It can be quite strange at times, but its really fun.
