hi, I have been dancing for most of my life and i have come to realize that i absolutely adore lyrical dance. I am in love with it and im pretty good at it, its one of my stronger styles. the only thing is sometimes - not always there are just these random days where i find it hard to loosen up. because i have most training in ballet ( I have been doing it professionally for many years) sometimes im to used to everything being strictly perfect. Are there any tips out there that can help me let go? Because usually i can depending on my mood but there are days where its kinda challenging.

any tips of advice?

thanks

  1. I am was in the same boat you are in now, trained professional in ballet but have the heart and style for lyrical. Won an entire competition with one of my lyrical solos when i was sixteen. Took top overall.

Well im sure the song that you are dancing too has some emotion and such that you can "feel" while you are dancing. Use that for some inspiration. :) If not, horse around a little bit anpracticece letting go of your center on some specific turns and that too can bring out a lot of emotion and really brings out the lyrical style.

If that doesnt work, think of a specific event that is close to you, losing a relative, learning your first dance routine, winning your first 1st place award (if you compete) and use that to bring some emotion, and that sometimes generally helps you "let go".

Practice moving your arms softly and freely, not stiff and positioned like ballet.

    hope this helps. :)

  2. The best advice I can give you is to feel the song and get deep into. In that way, you can give more emotion out instead of hitting every move perfectly.
