1. i'm a dancer and i do lyrical!! i love it and i just started 2 years ago. its a cross between ballet and jazz so you need to be kind of flexible. we mostly do turns and leaps and splits.

it is soooooooooo fun i hope you like it

  2. lyrical is very graceful and if you want to get really good then i strongly suggest taking ballet. its the foundation of all dance and will help you with turns, your allignment, and all that other good stuff. keep working on your splits, but dont go right into it when you stretch or you'll pull a muscle. do a deep lunge with your knee on the ground and push your hips towards the floor, if you dont feel anything then your not doing in right. flexibility is important in all kinds of dance but its not all that it takes. you need good posture but you also need to know when to be upright and stiff and when to be loose and let it go. work on your turns, pirouettes and fouettes. your teacher will help you so really dont worry about it too much, if your in the right class then you shouldnt be in over your head. just have fun

  3. okay. lyrical is very general, but the style is one of smooth quality and transitions.

increased flexibility can only help any form of dancing. the better the flexibility, the higher quality of dancing that can be attained.

my advice is to not too caught up in the jumps, turns, and tricks. those are good and you're going to need to learn them eventually, but its about smooth quality. google some movement improvisation exercises. its about doing what flows next not about the cool trick you want to stick into the routine. do what feels right when you begin to choreograph for your sake.

**start with polishing the basics before trying to tackle the cool looking stuff. the cool stuff is what you achieve for, but if you don't have a strong basic foundation, the cool stuff won't look cool. it'll just look amateur.

and just relax. everything looks more beautiful when you look relaxed and like you're enjoying yourself.
