I'm thinking about taking lyrical in September. How flexible would I have to be? What should I be able to do? And what could I work on over the summer?

  1. im using my moms  web page but ive been in lyrical for two years now and it is a lot of fun but it helps to be pretty flexible. some basic things are doing the splits with both legs and being able to stradle splits and laying down in them some things to work on would be swedish falls back roll overs and lots of turns and jumps also not holding back with your movements because you are expressing emotions

  2. da moonwalk side glide and the wave

  3. you wouldnt have to be that flexable you would need to do like sleeps and slips and stuff

  4. While flexibility is helpful for Lyrical, the most important thing is your line.  You need a flowing, graceful line, and plenty of expression, not just on your face, but in your limbs.

Work on flexibility by all means though, but put expression and emotion into all your movements.  Try improvising to music in this style, it will help you develope your interpretive skills.

  5. dont worry u do not have to be that fexible . it just depends on your age and what is expected of u. lyrical is very fun ( i think ) its kinda like a mixture between jazz and ballet (kinda weird). but its fun . things you could work over the summer is really streach alot .... while watching T.V. or just sitting around talking with the family . 20 mintues a day could really make a difference. .... good luck! :]

  6. You don't have to be extremely flexible, but flexibility does help quite a bit.  Make sure that you are very expressive with your movements.  You also would need to make sure that your body alignment is graceful.  You can do splits on both sides and straddle splits to gain more flexibility.  Find some music that you  like and start dancing to how you interpret the tune and the lyrics to express how it makes you feel.  Lyrical is fun so enjoy it.  BTW It's in between ballet and jazz dancing.

  7. WELL, lyrical (depending on WHERE you take lessons) isn't REALLY about flexibility, it's about FLOWING with the music. All  that I would work on is porte bras and lunges. If u r worried about flexibility, sit in strattle when you watch tv. I hope I helped.

btw, lyrical is a lot of floor work (again- it depends of where you take lessons), so prepare for bruised hips.  Good luck!

    :-)

  8. you dont have to be very flexible to dance lyrical but be prepared do some basic ballet barre stretching and try to do some splits to improve your flexibility but dont push yourself too hard it will come naturally with time

  9. you dont have to be really flexible as much as you have to be extremely gracefull so it would help doing some stretching your could look on youtube for some examples of lyrical dancing and try that
