hi, so i'm 13 and this is my 3rd year of doing ballet, 5th year of jazz, and 2nd of modern ( i know, not alot of expierence)

well i want ot audition for an arts school for dance for high school, and i have to choerograph a solo. the problem is, i'm not sure about the style.

I've never taken a lyrical class before, but i absolutely love it, and cheoreography seems to come naturally to me.

On the other hand, I've taken jazz for 4 years.

So what style should i cheroeograph my solo in?

And also, what classes should i take this year?

I'm allowed 4 max, but i definetly need 2 ballet

thanks in advance :)

  1. Okay it doesnt matter the eperience level it matters THE LEVEL. you can do dance for 5 years and still stink. (not saying you do, its me in some ways)

so do your technique (jumps turns and flexibility) which one is CLEANER not greater.

-If you have any competitive experience use that knowlege and wonder what the judges would be thinking ~ energy, pointed toes , smiles, cleanlyness, then technique.

think of a routine for both record them both then watch it yourself, be criticle. use the burden to keep you going. which ever one is CLEANER and has a bit more technique then perfect that one THEN record it again then give it to the school.

Im not saying this will work, they are looking for alot of technique but only and i mean only use it if its PERFECT .

    Just remember

    ~pointed toes

    ~energy

    ~a smile

    ~posture

and last but definitly not least

    HAVE FUN!

You made your own dance worked your but off and saw an improvement and then IF you get in have a cow and party

  2. do what ever you feel comfortable with.

  3. Depending on what arts school you're auditioning for, you might be a lot better than some of the other dancers. A few girls from an arts high school where I lived came to my dance studio for one class a week, and they were really far behind where our class actually was... so, don't fret.

If I were you, I'd do a controlled jazz dance. Something slower than shows off your ballet technique, but it would probably be a lot easier for you to steal choreography from your former dances to make up your audition piece, since you've done jazz the longest.

  4. Since you've never actually taken lyrical I don't reccomend you auditioning in that style. I'd go with the jazz, since you've been dancing it for a longer time and you've been trained in it. If you go and audition with a lyrical routine and the judges end up not liking it, you don't want to regret it.

Here are some song ideas that will make you stand out:

"Distortion" - David Guetta (great song! one of my faves! you can't find this one on on iTunes, but you can download it off Limewire)

"The Cactus that Found the Beat" - Missy Higgins

"Cheap and Cheerful" - The Kills (rockish vibe)

    "Good Luck" - Basement Jaxx

    "Limp" - Fiona Apple

    "Heartburn" - Alicia Keys

"Sinking Feeling" - Roisin Murphy (love the beat)

    "Radar" - Britney Spears

    "Mercy" - Duffy

"No Sleep Tonight" - The Faders

And about the classes, since you said that you need to take 2 ballet classes, that just leaves two more left. Since you've been taking jazz for a while you should continue with it in order to improve more. And for the other class, you can either continue with modern or take a lyrical class insteadnsince you're so passionate about it.

    Hope I could help :)

  5. id say do a ballet/lyrical to showcase your technique but if your technique is not very good stick to a jazz to show your performance ability and rhythm.

  6. i think u should try to find a song like thats jazz and lyrical combined so u can do some jazz steps but u could also do lyrical and   for ur classes  do the 2 ballet  1 jazz and 1 lyrical  good luck
