Lyudmyla Kichenok
sweeps away Anna Schmiedlova in 2nd round – Slovak Open 2011
Ukrainian qualifier Lyudmyla Kichenok
subjugated Slovak wildcard entrant Anna Schmiedlová in the second round of the Slovak Open 2011.
In Bratislava, Slovakia on indoor hard courts of the Národné Tenisové Centrum, the two players had taken up the challenge. After just one hour and seventeen minutes the Ukrainian qualifier  got rid of the Slovak wildcard entrant
by ousting her in straight sets of 6-3, 6-3 on Thursday the 17th of November 2011.
Opening the first round of the match was Schmiedlová and she was able to get off on a good start as she reeled straight two successive games and took the mini lead at the end of the second game. However, in the third game she double
faulted.
Mean while, Kichenok managed to capitalize on the breakpoint and then with a hold of serve completely reduced the deficit by equalizing the score at two games each at the end of the fourth game. As the two once more held their
respective serves in the following two games, the score balanced at three games each by the end of the sixth game.
Kichenok was extremely lucky as she again capitalized on a breakpoint and took the lead for the first time in the opening round. At the end of the seventh game the score had shifted to 4-3 with Kichenok leading the game.
In the following game, she warded off her adversary by battling a few aces to hold her respective serve and in doing so; she was a game away from bagging the opening game. As she capitalized on her last breakpoint, she clogged
the first round with a 6-3 victory.
During the second set the unseeded Ukrainian managed to a take a notch higher in her service game and had a strong defence which did not falter even once in the entire set. Opening the second round of the match was Kichenok and
this time both the players held their respective serves in the first two games.
They matched an eye for an eye and the score kept balancing out at two games each at the end of the fourth game and then finally at three games each by the end of the sixth. However, the Ukrainian wanted to cut the goose chase
and with a hold of serve in the next game, she then managed to capitalize on a pivotal break point in the eighth game. In doing so; she was only a game away from securing her victory.
As she held her serve for the last time, she smashed a marvellous forehand winner to seal her victory of the set and the match. Next up for Kichenok is fifth seeded Czech Karolína Plíšková in the quarterfinal of the event.
