Lyvius brings in the Sportingbet Intermediate Hurdle for Henderson

The four-year-old bay gelding, Lyvius, rolled in a two-length success in the Sportingbet Intermediate Hurdle (Limited Handicap) (Registered As The Gerry Feilden Hurdle) (Listed) on 29th November,
2012 at Newbury race course over two miles and half a furlong.
Call Back set the pace of the race and even when down the top of the home straight, it seemed that the pace setter was easily aiming for the wire. Just when the last three strides to home approached, the four-year-old
bay gelding by, Lysuna, sped in for the finish line. Staying on strong and determined at the closing stages of the race had him winning over the Paul Nicholls’ trained, Edgardo Sol.
The favourite entry of the race sent in by trainer, Alan King, ended a highly disappointing sixth.
The success of the Nicky Henderson trained was made possible with jockey, Barry Geraghty. Last year, the race was won by the champion hurdle icon, Rock On Ruby, who very recently went under the supervision
of trainer, Harry Fry from the champion trainer, Paul Nicholls.
Henderson said: "That was a nice performance and he was at the right end of the handicap. He was just a baby last season and when we looked at his form in Germany we came up with the idea that he liked soft
ground."
"Barry thought he would be better in a race with good pace."
The impressive performance of the under charge has got the connections already thinking about his future targets. The Ladbrokes Hurdle at Ascot race course remains to be the next outing. The jockey is convinced
that an option with more fast pace with suit the racing style of the bay gelding.
The race was the third success of the season for the four-year-old.
He won the Berrymoss Novices’ Hurdle on 15th February, 2012 at Kelso race course over two miles and half a furlong. The favourite entry won by the mark of two lengths.
Paolini’s gelding was then dominant in the TurfTV Novices’ Hurdle on 21st March, 2012 at Warwick race course over two miles. For this race too he was sent as the most favoured entry and defeated
Beggar’s Velvet by good five lengths.
