M. Agung overwhelms Rizky Darmawan in fourth round of 2012 Pertamina Open Badminton Championships
Men’s Singles shuttler M. Agung employed all of his brilliance in the game and thrashed M. Rizky Darmawan to gain access to the fifth round of Pertamina Open Badminton Championships on December 11, 2012.
This epic tussle remained in full swing for three exhausting sets and both contenders sweat hard while registering final figures of 18-21, 21-19 and 21-13.
Initially, Rizky Darmawan established a strong grip by winning the opening game but he failed to capitalise this advantage and knelt down tamely in the ending two sets.
On the other hand, M. Agung showed commendable fighting spirit and locked the honour despite of having a horrendous start.
Though, he put an honest effort in the first set but luck was not on his side. He gained an early advantage with couple of back-to-back productive rallies but then few unforced errors brought him down.
Rizky Darmawan did not squander this opportunity and tipped the scale in his favour. He finished first half of the set with a decent score position of 11 and then served notice of his supremacy with 21-18 margin on the board.
However, he failed to show consistency in his performance and following games were sheer disappointment for him.
In second set of the match, it was Agung who ruled the court from very first stroke to the last one.
This time he played with positive attitude and fortitude to avoid a straight-set defeat and brought the contest to right balance.
He started the beating after remaining low in the establishing rallies and managed to end first half of the set with a respectable figure.
The latter part of game was full of action as both contenders made every effort to achieve their respective goals.
They remained toe-to-toe until game point situation and this nerve-racking tussle ended when Agung registered a winning margin of 21-19.
Third set started with couple of gruelling rallies but then Agung showed an elevated craft and established an unassailable lead.
He did not lose focus and swept the table with an impressive total of 21-13. This win led him to fifth round of this tournament where he will be up against Cecep M Alawy.
