M.J. Hur ties for third at Prattville
South Korean M.J. Hur displayed a stunning performance at the Navistar LPGA Classic 2012 as she shot an overall 273 to finish tied for the third position along with two other contenders.
Hur got off to a sensible start at the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) tournament, staged at Prattville, Alabama, United States, cementing her position on the leaderboard.
The South Korean star carded a massive 65 in the second round, which helped her rise to the second position, but a solid performance from American Stacy Lewis caused Hur to slip to the third position on the
leaderboard.
However, the third round did not go as good as she had planned. Having carded a 72 on Saturday, Hur faced a little trouble keeping pace with her nearest rivals, and she finally saw her position being taken
by defending champion Lexi Thompson of the United States and Stacy Lewis.
Lewis performed well in all the four rounds as she registered an overall 270 to grab the title. Thompson was lucky enough to grab an early lead but she could not keep her momentum going in the third round,
letting Lewis walk all over her in a tense battle on the last day at Prattville.
Hur, who was happy after making a promising start, said while speaking to the LPGA Tour on Sunday that her performance remained strong throughout the tournament, but some of the holes in the last two rounds
troubled her.
“My play was up and down a lot. I made two bogeys on front nine and I made two three‑putts today, so it was tough day for me. My putting wasn't good from yesterday, but I like it because is one more round
left,” Hur said at the end of the third round.
Commentators said that the South Korean golfer gave rivals a hard time in the first two rounds, but she would have done even better if she had played a bit more sensibly in the final two rounds.
“I missed my driver to the right and I hit 9‑iron 10 yards short, but it was pretty good lie for ‑‑ two putt, it was chance to birdie, but I hit it too hard and missed a short par putt and I made a bogey.
But it's okay, it happens”.
