M. Shahid wins against Imran Shehzad in final of 36th National Snooker Championship
M. Shahid has beaten the top seed of Pakistan Imran Shehzad in the final of 36th National Snooker Championship 2011 which held at the Banquet Hall Gymkhana, Karachi by a frame score of 8-2 in a best-of-fifteen frame match.
The unseeded player from Faisalabad, M. Shahid outplayed the top favourite Imran Shehzad of Punjab with a score-line of 90-44, 4-97, 7-72, 82-1, 86-0, 80-32, 78-40, 42-81, 66-24, and 67-44.
Pakistan’s top cueist Imran Shehzad won the first frame comfortably as he snookered Shahid after going out of the position and received nine foul shots from his opponent going ahead by 39 points making the scores 1-0.
M. Shahid bounced back fully composed and took the next five frame in a row by making a magnificent break of 97 in the second frame also beating the maximum of the tournament which was 95 from Imran Shehzad. Other dominant breaks from M. Shahid in
the meanwhile were 61, 86, and 61.
The 7th frame was won by Imran Shehzad as he made a break of 48 before missing a red in the centre pocket. Shahid tried pulling the frame on his side again by making a break of 40 but he also missed a pot in the same pocket.
Shahid was lucky as Imran got snookered on his miss but later on another break of 21 from Imran made the scores 5-2. In the 8th frame Imran made a break of 42 before Shahid compiled a break of 46 and after a couple of snookers Shahid
again pocketed the frame.
Similarly, M. Shahid also won the 9th frame dominating it with a break of 65 and the 10th frame as well. The experienced Imran Shehzad was pushed under loads of pressure by the qualifier who was playing his first
ranking event.
The winner of 36th NJI National Snooker Championship M. Shahid took the lucrative trophy and will also now represent Pakistan in the upcoming Iran event along with Imran Shehzad and M. Sajjad.
