hi.i have 0 knowledge about the proceudre to be followed by chess players here...like state level tournaments or national kevel..how to participate in them,any restrictions etc etc..any information regarding chess would be helpful.thanks in advance

Find a chess club near where you live.

Join the USCF (United States Chess Federation) and play in some tournaments.  In larger cities you can find a tournament ever few weeks.

In New York, there's always something happening.
