Question:

M1 Average Speed Cameras?

I have to travel up and down the M1 a lot, and they have average speed cameras. Has anyone been caught on these cameras, as 50 mph is really too slow (eps when i never see any work men working on the roads). - I have also heard that if you jump between lanes this confuses the cameras

  1. Margin is probably only 10% OR LESS. The lane switching trick does not apply to temporary road works cameras, only to permanent installations, and then only till the relevant clause of the data protection act is modified. Just set your cruise control at 50 and relax for a few miles!

  2. I to get not a little fed up with miles of cones and no one working there, and three miles further down the road I see two people having a chat. Then another one with a bulldozer or some other heavy machine. All this goes on for weeks. surely with proper organisation most area could be up and running within 48 to 72 hours

  3. Have you ever worked out how much time you save by travelling at 70 instead of 50....work it out....it is very very little even if travelling over 10 miles....so you don't save much time, as well as winding up everyone else who is keeping to the limit, as well as risking a fine and points on your licence...so why bother.....just chill out for a few minutes.

  4. If it says 50 - do 50!  Even if there seems to be no workmen on site, quite often the temporary lanes are narrow or cross over in a chicane type lane which you wouldn't be able to manoeuvre around at the last minute if you were going any faster.  Speed cameras only allow for 5 mph more - they make a lot of money out of dickheads who speed!!!

  5. the guy who purchased my car got stopped on the way home from collecting it, i know because the ticket got to me before the changeover details got to swansea, from memory something like 65 mph average speed at around 10pm, it was in the summer but visability is still darkish so watch out they even work at night

  6. There was a software bug whereby changing lanes would confuse the ASCs, this has "allegedly" been fixed. There are faster alternatives to the M1 roadworks section between J11 and J6. You have to get a bit creative.
