M1330 laptop with 128MB NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS connected through HDMI lags?

I have the upgraded video card on my M1330 laptop and was trying to play HD Video (720p or 1080p) movies through my laptop and display it on my TV through HDMI. For some reason it lags when it displays the video on the TV but not the laptop screen. Is this not a powerful enough video card? Has anyone managed to play HD movies through their M1330 using HDMI? What are the minimum specs you need for a home theater PC to display 1080p content on a 42" or larger 1080p TV? I would think my processor is fast enough (its a Core 2 Duo) and I have 2GB of memory, so that's usually enough to do most things. Seems the only spec that might not be good enough is the 8400M GS video card. Unfortunately that was the best video card they offer for this laptop.
