M16 or AK-47 assault rifle?

Which assault rifle do you prefer. The M16 or the AK-47? I personally prefer the M16 due to it's accuracy and 3 round burst fire. It can support multiple scopes and grenade launchers. It doesn't over heat fast either. So, which AR do you prefer?

  1. I've got the civilian versions of both.

The AK is neat and is fun to shoot but the AR 15 (civillian version of the M16/M4) is more comfortable and more accurate overall.

I can hit very small targets with an AR at 100 yards without much effort. I can't do the same thing with the AK.

The AK is nice because the ammo is cheap, the gun is reliable and easy to clean.

The AR is easy to shoot well, more comfortable to hold but does take longer to clean up when your done.

I've never had either of these jam on me and have shot thousands of rounds.

  2. I was in the military with a combat arms MOS and I can honestly say that the ak 47 beats the m-16 hands down. I was just thinking about this topic today and came to a conclusion. The military wants you to think of your weapon as "your girl". Treat your weapon as you would a princess. So here is how it breaks down, the m16 is a beautiful girl who you have to prep, wine and dine and be careful how you treat "her" or she may leave ya hanging. The ak 47 is an average girl next door who may not be a "knock-out" in the looks category but she will stand next to ya through the thick and thin and can hold her own.

Now, which would you have in the hard times. I personally believe the military was duped into accepting the m16 then refused to change its mind when they found out about its major downfalls due to all the money they spent in instituting it. If all the boys (and God bless them all!) from vietnam and all other wars who died due malfunction weapons could talk about the downfalls of the m16 oh what a blog it would be! Hey, don't get me wrong, the m16 is accurate but utter accuracy is not necessary in combat, trust me! When bullets start flying, you are shooting as fast as you can return fire, not taking your sweet time to get a 450m shot in.

  3. I prefer my ar for power and accuracy but I like my ak because it doesn't jam.

  4. The AK. It'll take far more abuse than the M16. The M16's more accurate, but when you hit the 5.56 does a d**n sight less damage than the AK.

  5. I prefer both, my VEPR 7.62x39 is just as accurate as my M4 Bushmaster is at 100 meters. At 200 meters the M4 starts to edge out the VEPR in group size, but not enough to complain about. Distances over 300 meters is where the M4 begins to shine. If I know my shots will be 200 yards and less, I will take the VEPR any day. Shots over 300, give me the M4.

Keep in mind a vepr isnt your run of the mill ak variant, it's an accurised, highly machined rifle, where your average romanian ak is a stamped , mass production battle rifle.

  6. Well, I'd love to have an AR15, but I haven't rangled together 1,000 yet so a couple years ago I bought an AK47 for $399. I gotta tell you I love it! It's pretty accurate (people ***** about AKs being inaccurate but mines pretty badass, maybe not a tack driver, but still badass), It's reliable, cheap to shoot, and there's almost as much aftermarket stuff out there as there is for the AR.

Mine was kind of an ugly duckling when I bought it, but with a little TLC she's a beautiful piece now. I got a real wood buttstock for it (not one of those the laminate ones), I redid the foregrip, fixed the slight trigger slap problem it had and put a Red Star Arms adjustable trigger in it. Now that bad boy has about 3 lbs trigger pull!

  7. You ask what assault rifle then finish your question with AR??? The M16 and AK47 are assault rifles.... An AR15 is not.....

Its as if you asked us whether we like Buick or Mercury then ask us what Honda we prefer???

Anyways I think I get the idea.... An AR15 is more accurate hands down. And depending on the model or barrel its way more accurate than any AK could hope to be...

Of course you cant get a 3 round burst AR15. - Well at least not without a huge paperwork hassle and that's even if your state allows it....

Why not get them both??  I have 4 AR15's and a couple of AK variants... Even though the AR15 is more accurate and built better the AK is fun to shoot...

Both of these rifles use cheap ammo so that's a big plus....

Accurate???  I only shoot at 12 or 15 inch steel plates and silhouette targets and both rifle's are plenty of accurate for that to 75 and 100 yards....... Shooting little 1 inch holes in paper is lame -- besides that's not what either rifle was designed to do....

  8. AK - cheaper parts, overall, ammo used to B cheap. The most prolific rifle on the face of the earth. Can B mounted w/grenade launchers (or p.c. terms- flare launcher) and some have an integeral scope-mount rail on right side. Accuracy is ok.

AR - precision, expensive, lots of mods available.

I prefer the AK, they're great plinkers and durable beater-rifles.

  9. I like the AK 47. Never lets you down when it matters.

  10. Well, if I had to choose between these two it would be the M16.

but I like the M16A3 better because of its capability of firing full auto.

The M16 is a favorite because of its accuracy and lethal firepower, but it is indeed less powerful than a AK47.
