  1. m16 because it has more damage and accuracy. high rate of fire but m16 is heavier than m4..

  2. M4 and the M16A4 are almost the same exact gun except the M4 has a shorter barrel resulting in less fps and accuracy. but try entering a building with an M16...

  3. Gimme the old M-16-A2 anyday. With the decent scope on it I can still shoot the wings off of a fly at 100 yards. I am talking about groupings the size of a silver dollar. Without a scope I can hit a running target at 300 yards CONSISTENTLY.  The shorter barrel is convienent, but some accurancy is lost at longer ranges. I earned the Expert Marksman Ribbon in the US Air Force TWICE and also awarded it in the US Army.

  4. The only thing that separates the two in power is the barrel length. M4 is designed to be handier in tight spaces, so it has a shorter barrel than the M16. Shorter barrel length = Decreased Projectile Velocity

The truth is, both weapons are basically the same and are very flawed. They use a system that basically dirties itself with it's own spent gunpowder. The cartridge (.223 Remington/ 5.56/45mm NATO) while deadly at short to medium ranges lacks significant stopping power. The bullet is one of the smallest available, just barely wider and longer than a .22 rimfire (common squirrel hunting round). It makes up for that by having a significant powder charge pushing the small bullet, commonly surpassing 3000 feet per second in a M16.

This very fast bullet is stable and accurate, but loses energy quickly(stopping power) due to it's low mass. Also it is vulnerable to wind gusts. There are many documented cases where enemy fighters have taken several M16/M4 shots to the body and continued fighting. This typically does not happen with traditional .30 caliber and higher  ammunition from rifles like the M1 Garand, M14, Ak47, G3, and so on.

The M16 family of rifles is nice because you can carry lots of ammo, its pretty light and easy to handle as well as clean. It's accurate, and is fairly deadly. There's tons of variants and accessories available.

Downside - It is finicky with ammunition and dirt. Don't let it go uncleaned. The round it fires is not the greatest killer ever, you might get shot by someone you just shot.

  5. i would take the m16a4, shorter barrel length means less muzzle velocity and the 5.56 is underpowered as is, the m4a1 probably fires faster simply because you can fire it on full auto, and the m16a4 is far more accurate.however in urban warfare im not sure how much advantage the m16 would have and i would take the m4 for any type of CQB situation.
