Question:

M25 traffic on a Sunday?

I'm off to see a friend in Essex on Sunday, which means a rare trip down the M25 from High Wycombe. Is this advisable traffic-wise? What is it usually like Sunday evenings, and is there a recommended time I should leave Essex to avoid the worst of it (if there is such a time)?

  1. I'll also be on the M25 this Sunday so I share your pain

  2. Now let me see. Today is Thursday and you want to get there by Sunday. If you leave tomorrow, Friday, then you stand a good chance of getting to your destination by Sunday.

  3. normaly on that trip, clockwise, the most congested part will be around the M1 junction, its a bit tricky there in traffic anyway so go easy, dont get caught in the inner lane for M1 north. If no breakdowns or accidents you will be ok. If not the most you will lose is an hour or two,  at worst, if there is an accident. I did that trip to my in laws every other sunday for 6 years and got stuck for 3 hours on the way back once. In the old days before speed cams on a good day in the week i could do wycombe to essex in the week in 1/12 to 2 hours at about 85 tops.

  4. it tends to be quiet on a Sunday but isn't this weekend a bank holiday so it will probably be extremely busy

  5. Ah, I was unfortunate enough to travel on the notorious car-park each weekday to get from J10 to J12. Nightmare !

However on a weekend, it is OK, don't worry, you will be fine.

  6. Monday's a bank holiday so it should be quiet on Sunday because everyone will still be wherever they are spending bank holiday.

  7. Sundays it usually flows pretty smoothly
