  1. Most average people won't fire 60 rounds in one sitting, unless they are fighting off an enemy attack.Yes, I'd say you got the rifle hot. It is however a battle rifle and is designed to do that.

It sounds like you boiled out, some of the years of oil which soaked into the stock.

If your not afraid of a little work that can be remedied fairly easily. Brownells sells a stock whitener. It draws out excess oils in the stock. Then you can refinish as you like. Stain and Tru-Oil to finish.

  2. 60 rds is a LOT of shooting in one sitting. So, how sore was your shoulder? Yeah, you were just cooking out the oil and grease. It would be unusual for a soldier to fire 60 rounds in quick succession. First of all, the average soldier didn't even carry 60 rounds. Second, if he were in a serious fight, he would either drive off the enemy or be overrun himself before he went through that many.

Should not hurt the rifle, though.

  3. have a few more 60 round sessions and cook the rest of it out.

  4. Still got cosmolene in it. Strip it and clean it again. Hot thought the forend? All guns get hot when firing.
