The same system used by our friends in Israel. No deferments. No excuses. Do you think this will become necessary should the United States military be thrust into another armed conflict in the near future?

  1. Why not ? It's everyone's country. Shouldn't we all be responsible to protect it ? Not ALL military jobs are combat anyway, but the burden would be more evenly spread. AND unnecessary wars would be avoided.

  2. One year would be good for all, that is what most countries do.  If  you dont want to be on the fields for fighting , their are kitchen jobs, packing etc,.  Freedom is not free, and too many people want us to stay in Iraq and only 1% of the population has someone there, so they dont know the impact.  In the past rich get out of it or get special privaledge if their dad is a hot shot in military.  Englands prince is in so that says something!

  3. nope, our volunteer system has brought in plenty of people.  don't get me wrong, if they were somehow wiped out and it meant my families lives, i'd enlist, but as for right now... i'm a lover not a fighter.

  4. i think it should be mandatory now..there is nothing wrong with fighting for the country you live in..people in America cry about his/her rights and this isn't right and that isn't right..well if you want all those rights..then you should serve your country to EARN those rights..thousands have died so we can have a free country...there is nothing wrong with people now serving also...

  5. This is not a question but I will answer it anyways.  I don't think this kind of draft should be enacted because it would take away our liberty to choose the kind of life we want for ourselves.  Some people aern't cut out for the military and some hate it aka Bill Clinton.  Thats the choice people make in their own lives.  This is not to say the draft should be stripped from the constitution because there might be a time when we need "volunteers" to defend our country against invaders.

  6. Not until all the Viet Nam era vets are senile. We worked to hard to get the all volunteer military a fact to let the draft get reinstated. If all citizens served it might be different but I doubt it. I would never take a shipmate who did not want to be there again. As a different proposal how about you only get to vote if you either do the four years military or peace corps successfully.
