  1. Cleo - Chocolate Chip, smile. Have you talked to your parents about being home schooled? I would like to be a help to you and parents. I have a web site dedicated in doing just that. Please check it out, listed below. I have a schedule of a home school day listed on the web site, home school laws for each state, and where to buy curriculum. Home School will take dedication and commitment on your part.  Please let me know if I can be of further help to you.  Talk to your parents first. Have a nice day.

  2. Well, I can't answer you about the online programs, but I will tell you what I know by experience.

I was homeschooled from K-5 all the way through high school. I just graduated this May. Anyway, I think homeschooling is a great option. There are so many opportunities for you.

Here are some of the pros: In many areas there are things called cover schools that (this is mainly for programs not online) which take care of your grades/report cards and things like that. The homeschool group I was apart of  consisted of 200+ families. Unlike what a lot of people say, you can have a social life when you're homeschooled. We had loads of things we could do. Field trips, all kinds of sports, clubs, prom, music lessons, and there were even homeschool classes where a bunch of homeschoolers could get together in a class type setting. If you chose to just sit at home and do your work, that would be fine, but there are so many options.

Cons: You can choose to not have a social life, but really this is up to you. Some areas don't have a good homeschool group, and so finding the clubs/sports/activities thing can be difficult.

Your daily schedule is up to you. Mine went a little like this: Got up between 8 and 9, got ready for the day, did (and finished) my lessons in about 3-4 hours (the higher grade you are the longer it takes for you to finish), ate lunch, and did chores and had my free time.

I've never missed having classmates because I was doing some kind of class or in a club or playing sports or even going on field trips with all my friends.

Sorry about the long answer, but I tried to squeeze in a lot of info in as few words as I could.

  3. It depends on why you want to be homeschooled so badly. Were you bullied, or was public school not challenging enough, or did you just not like going to school? I was homeschooled through 8th grade, and I really wish that I had gone to public school.

Pros - you can learn at your own pace, you don't have to go anywhere, you can design your own curriculum, you can take lots of sick days/vacations : ).

Cons - you'll miss out on a lot of fun high school staples (prom, etc), it's easy to lose touch with your friends. Also, it's much harder to do anything that involves a lab (dissections, powerpoint, etc) which will make college much harder to adjust to, and you won't be able to do the extracirriculars usually available like sports, music, the newspaper, etc.

If you really want to do this, though, try to stay on the same general schedule as the local public school. Besides being a good guideline (it's really easy to never do anything if you always are thinking, "I can do it after lunch" or "I can do it tomorrow"), you'll be able to chill with your friends when they aren't in school. Also, get involved in something in order to make some new friends - a sports team, a youth orchestra, a church youth group, anything that you are interested in really. I don't know of any online programs, but Kolbe is really good, especially if you are catholic (if not, just don't do the religion courses.) I think high schoolers can just send their work in to be graded.

  4. Oreos...

-You can make your own schedule

    - Look at http://www.homeschoolsecrets.blogspot.co...

    - my kids have lots of friends at Karate, church, volunteer work

    - For High School they work from 8-12 most days

-My kids love it because they have time for other things they enjoy

-You must be disciplined enough to work independently

Best of Luck on your decision!
