Maslov is a human developmental theorist.  Those who student typical and atypical child development (special education) are familiar with Maslov.  He theorized that for a child to develop at expected normal stages in life with healthy peers, the child would need to have his or her needs fulfilled at one stage before advancing to the next.  Those stages of need are 1)physiological needs (food, shelter, etc.), 2) Safety and Security needs, 3) Social needs, 4)Esteem needs, and 5) Self-actualization (the need to be true to only oneself).
