  1. 1. y=mx+b

    where m= (Y2-Y1)/(X2-X1)

    m= (4-3)/(3-1) = 1/2

    y=1/2x+b

    Substitute your points in....

    3 = 1/2*1 + b

    Solve for b

    b= 5/2

    Therefore the answer is...   y = 1/2x + 5/2

    2.y=mx+b

    5 = 7/8*(-2) +b

    b= 27/4

    Answer...  y = 7/8x + 27/4

    3.

    Put in form y=mx+b

    y = (3/10)x - 2

    Since m is the slope.... the answer is 3/10

  2. 1. the slope is

       4-3/3-1 = 1/2

    y = (1/2) x + b

    you substitute  (1,3) and (3, 4) for x, y

      (1)  3 = (1/2) (1) + b

             b= 5/2

      (2) 4 = (1/2) (3) + b

         b=5/2

    so 1.  y=(1/2)x + 5/2

    2. y=(7/8)x + b

    substitute (5,-2) for x, y

      -2=(7/8)(5) + b

    b= -51/8

    so y= (7/8)x -51/8

    3. 3x-10y=20

        3x-20=10y

        y= 3/10x -2

    so, the slope is 3/10

  3. 3. slope = 3/10

  4. I can only answer your #3 question; here is how to find the slope:

    10y/10=-3x/10+20/10

    y=3x+2

    the last pat is the slope.

  5. 1. To solve this, you need to use the point-slope form: y-y1 = m(x-x1)

    simply substitute one point for y1 and x1.

    so (y-3)=m(x-1)

    to figure out the slope you do y2-y1/x2-x1

    which in this case would be 4-3/3-1 which is 1/2, so the slope is 1/2.

    and the equation is (y-3)=1/2(x-1)

    2. this is easy, substitute the numbers in point-slope form.

    (y+2)=7/8(x-5)

    3. you need to make this in slope-intercept form, and you do that by isolating the y first.

    -10y=-3x+20.

    then you divide both side of the equal sign by -10 and you get

    y=(3/10)x - 2
