  1. an easy way to find the vertex without the equation is to find the derivative of the parabola see when it equals 0 then plug that into the original equation then there  you go you got the vertex

  2. y= 2x+ 4x + 5                  2/2= 1    1 squared= 1

    y= 2(x squared + 2x)+5

    y=2(x2 +2X + 1)+5         1 x 2= 2

    y=2(x2 + 2X +1)+5 - 1

    y=2(x2 + 2X + 1)+4  divide the 2 in the middle by 2

    y=2(x + 1) squared +4

    Vertex= (-1,4)

  3. line of sym goes thru vertex ....

    x = -b / 2a

    ex.  2x^2 - 8x - 30 ...

    vertex = -(-8) / 2(2) = 2

    2(2)^2 - 8(2) - 30=  -38 ..... 9point is 2, -38

    axis is x= 2

  4. There is no equation, you just read the vertex off the parabola's equation ... and the line of symmetry and be found via the vertex:

    Ex:

    y = a(x - h)² + k

    Vertex = (h, k)

    Line of symmetry would be x = h
