MATH QUESTION HELP!!!!?

Ok. This is kind of a re-post because we couldn't get the last part and we need help with one thing more. Pleaseeee. =]

This is the question::

The four oldest people in Golden City have lived 384 years. the difference in ages for the youngest and the next oldest is 14. The next youngest is 3 years older than the youngest. The oldest is 20 years older than the average of the next oldest and youngest. How old is each?

And this is how far we have gotten::

x + x + 14 over 2 + 20

x + (x + 3) + (x + 14) + (2x + 14 divided by 2 + 20) = 384

( 2x + 14) over 2 = x + 7 + 20

x + (x + 3) + (x + 14) + (x + 27) =384

4x + 44 = 384 (we figured out how to do it up to this point.)

4x = 340 (now, we have no idea how they got the 340. Please if you could give a logical explanation. to how you got the answer. We really need to know how to get this answer.

First, I would call them "a", "b", "c" and "d", in order of their ages.

a + b + c + d = 384

d - a = 14

b - a = 3

d = 20 + [(c + a) / 2]

By simplifying the equation we can get the following equations. The final solution is 85,88,99 and 112.

well i have one of them lol i am working on the others and have almost got them all....

4x + 44 = 384

subtract 44 from both sides.

4x + 44 = 384

      -44 =  -44

4x = 340

divide 4 from both sides

4x / 4 = 340 / 4

now x equals 65

x = 65 (because 340 divided by 4 equals 65)
