Okay this is for an assignment & i completly dont get it, if someone would be able to make it sound easy.....i will give double pointss.

Okay the question is this:

Put this equation in to a table: y = 3(square root of) x

x 0 o.5 1 1.5 2 2.5 3

y 0 2.1 3 3.7 4.2 4.7 5.2

^^ Thats the graph answers

Then it says use this table to estimate a value for (square root of) 18 & it also says clearly show how you arrived at the answer

I dont know what the equation would have in it or how to go about it

I am really lost with this question!!!!

Any help would be appreciatedd!!!

  1. y=3 der

    just do the math i get it but i you to figure it out yourself

  2. Im not a nerd but it is

    You want the √18 so you do surds:

    18 = 9 x 2 so √18 = √(9 x 2)

    Use the distributive law:

    √(9 x 2) = √9 x √2

    √9 = 3 so:

    √9 x √2 = 3√2

    The table's equation is y = 3√x and you want 3√2 (√18)

    Substitute x with 2 and in the table shown, you get 4.2

  3. i'm so sorry i just finished the 5th grade :( don't worry, i'll help you when i reach high school...

  4. Start by looking at the just the question and ignoring all of the wordy details.

    Question:  Estimate √(18)

    You know that 18 = 9*2 (where * means times).  Then you can rewrite the question as

    Question:  Estimate √(9*2)

    But √(9*2) = √(9)*√(2) so the question is really

    Question:  Estimate √(9)*√(2)

    Since 9 = 3*3, then you know that √(9) = 3.  So the question is

    Question:  Estimate 3√(2)

    Now this has the form y = 3√(x) from the equation they gave you.  All you need to do is look at the table entry for the y value when x = 2.  This should be y = 4.2 so 4.2 is the estimate of √(18).

    Hope this helps you!

  5. You want the √18 so you do surds:

    18 = 9 x 2 so √18 = √(9 x 2)
