MATSHITA UJ-850S DVD RAM not not working properly:

Question

I have problems with the UJ-850S DVD/CD writer in my Sony Vaio VGN-N365E running on Vista Home Premium: the drive can't read CDs which were burned here (and they play/open elsewhere). Tried to run the Nero Speed Test and after starting the Test Disc burning it came out with an error message saying: "SCSI status 1"
This drive had worked properly for almost an year! What should I do now, provided there are neither LOWERFILTERS nor UPPERFILTERS in that registry section?!?
