My washing machine will fill with water...then it will empty...it will never spin. When i look on the bottom i see the belt moving and i can hear the motor working. When it is empty and it's on and SUPPOSED to be spining, i can reach my hand in a give it a little "help push" and it will go slow for a while. I thought my belt may have "slipped" or be lose... but i wasn't sure how to tighten it....so i put a BUNCH of rubber bands (ghetto rigged) around the large wheels under the belt to make the best tighter....this did not work. Did my transmission just stop working? When i look in the back of washer (plate off of it) when it's running NOTHING is turning....look on bottom, looks like it's working like a charm....ANY IDEAS? chrisraider28@yahoo.com

  1. Usually the belt needs to be replaced. There is no way to tighten them. There are springs on the motor. Remove the front cover, push gently on the motor and see if it moves back and forth. If not, clean the wheels it rides on, replace the belts and you should be ok.

  2. Chris: Maytag washer will not spin is caused by thrust bearing and brake assembly going bad.  This is expensive to replace and is not a DIY job it take about 4 hour work plus parts. I have left you web link for you to review.

  3. How old is it? We had a Lady Kenmore that stopped spinning. It was old, and found out from the repairman, that it would cost too much getting parts, and repairing. We bought a new Oasis Kenmore. Call the Maytag, and let them send out a repairman.
