  1. An MBA program essentially prepares you for any area of management, up to CEO. It is a broad degree with relatively little specialization in any one field. It is an ideal degree for science and engineering students as well as students in many non business degrees, who want to be able to advance rapidly to top managerial positions.

The MS degree, on the other hand requires you delve deeply into the field of your choice so that you can devote your life primarily working in that field at an advanced level. You would normally pursue the MS in the same field as your undergraduate degree or a closely related field. A business student may choose between an MBA or an MS in accounting or MS in finance. an engineering student may choose an MS in engineering or an MBA.

The MBA was designed to enable people with science, engineering, or other undergraduate degrees to advance into management position in businesses where they are able to manage and at the same time be conversant with the people they manage. The degree was created when businesses discovered that promoting an excellent engineer into management did not mean that he know how to manage, while many managers did nt understand what the engineers were talking about.

So a lot depends in which direction you want to go: high level expertise in your field or managerial expertise with a good understanding of your undergraduate background. A good way to explore is to access the Official MBA Guide which discusses this issue in more detail. It is a data base primarily of MBA programs, but many of the schools listed also offer the MS degree. This guide provides you with a means of establishing your own criteria and preferences to get a list of MBA schools ranked according to how well they meet your criteria. It is a free public service, and they list over a thousand MBA programs worldwide.

  2. Your question makes little sense.

The abbreviation for MS means Masters of Science, it is a Masters a degree and the a various MS degrees available such as the MAcc, M, Arch and MSF.

The MBA is just another varation of an MS degree. So comparing an MBA to an MS is illogical because an MS is in a sense the kind of degree.

You could ask the question MS or MA.

In the case of an MBA you could ask MBA or MSF (Masters of Science in Finance)/MComm (Masters of Commerce) etc.
