MBBC Jr International: Diana Corleto Soto overpowers Aileen Sun to bag Girl’s Singles U13 title
Diana Corleto Soto, a budding shuttler from Guatemala, showed her staggering skills and bagged Girl’s Singles U13 title after defeating her lower ranked local opponent Aileen Sun in the final battle at the 2012 MBBC Jr International in USA, on Friday, July
20.
The in-form Diana, who was the top seed in Girl’s Singles draw of the tournament, did a superb job in the title match when she overpowered Aileen with a reasonable margin on the score board.
The higher ranked Diana played to her best potential on court and overpowered her un-seeded opponent in straight games without facing much trouble.
On the other hand, Aileen could not maintain her impressive performance in the final contest as she failed to play well against Diana. She lost the opening game easily without showing her impressive skills.
However, the local girl gave a good fight in the second set but remained unlucky in the ending points and lost the battle with a reasonable score.
Diana started her campaign in an impressive fashion as she played with remarkable precision and remained in complete control of rallies.
The top seeded Diana continued her powerful performance until the end of opening half of first game and took a superb lead on score board.
After the break, the USA player tried to show her brilliance on court but failed to stop the aggression of Diana who easily took the opening game with a superb 21-14 score on the board.
In the second set, Aileen showed her tremendous class when she played at her maximum speed and remained close to her higher ranked rival until the mid-game interval.
In the meanwhile, Diana could manage an early lead in opening half this time as her opponent played positive badminton.
After the break, both players progressed quite closely on the score board and reached at the thrilling stage of 20-20.
At the stage, Diana played controlled badminton and managed to wrap up the game with a 23-21 margin on the board.
Diana won the Girl’s Singles title after crushing Aileen in the final battle with the margin of 21-14 and 23-21.
