MBBC Jr International: Johannes Hagen crushes Shawn Whong in Boy’s Singles semi-final
Johannes Hagen, a talented young player from Norway, continued his tremendous run and surged into Boy’s Singles U19 final after proving his elevated craft in semi-final contest when he crushed his lower ranked challenger Shawn Whong of USA at the 2012 MBBC
Jr International on Tuesday, July 17, in USA.
The in-form Johannes, who is placed at the top in Men’s Singles main draw of the event, did not let thing slip from his hands at any stage in the semi-final battle and easily registered a comprehensive victory over his fourth seeded USA opponent.
The higher ranked Johannes was aggressive on court as he did not let his opponent to take control of the game at any stage in the entire battle and wrapped up victory in an inspiring fashion by ending up the fight in two games with a staggering margin.
On the other hand, Shawn could not show his elevated class while playing against his Norwegian opponent as he committed too many mistakes on court and eventually crashed out without showing a strong character.
The opening set was completely lopsided as Johannes put up tremendous show of attacking and positive badminton and constructed a superb lead at the early stage.
The Norwegian was at his best while taking the bird early and took a remarkable gap until the mid-game interval.
After the one-minute break, the aggressive Johannes continued his dominating play without facing any interruption.
The perfect shot selection of Johannes left Shawn struggling on court and eventually snatched the opening game with a huge difference of 21-12.
In the second set, Shawn tried to show his class but failed to dominate the pace as his higher ranked opponent was on a different level.
Johannes did not show mercy to his USA challenger and set up a comfortable gap on score board until the mid-game interval.
After the break, Johannes remained positive and composed and did not face any trouble in finishing off the second set with a sensational margin of 21-13.
Johannes thrashed Shawn in this semi-final clash in straight games by putting up a staggering 21-12 and 21-13 score on the board.
