MBBC Jr. International: Marius Fartum, Allen Hsu surge into semi-final round of Boy’s Doubles event
The twosome of Marius Fartum and Allen Hsu forged a fruitful chemistry against Carter Tong-Shawn Whong and earned the right to be in the semi-finals of Boy’s Doubles Under-22 category of MBBC Jr. International on July 19, 2012.
They took just two games to read a favourable result of 21-16 and 21-13 in this Group B match which was staged at Manhattan Beach, California, USA.
Now the duo is going to meet Roberto Humblers-Franklin Ramirez in the second to last round of the event.
Marius and Allen, who hold second spot in the tournament rankings, have been proving their class throughout this contest as they ended the preliminary round as Group winners.
In their last encounter of Group stage, they completely outclassed local shuttlers in all areas of the game and sealed a splendid straight-set win.
They set the ball rolling straight away in the first set when they prevailed in four consecutive rallies after 3-2.
This initial advantage helped them to keep their challengers at lower end. They mounted pressure by grabbing three uninterrupted points just before the interval and finished first half with an indomitable total of 11-5.
However, later part of the game was not flat as the first one and native campaigners registered their presence with an impressive knock.
The partnership of Carter and Shawn looked at its best in third quarter of the set as they made swift progress to 10-13.
They managed to go with the same flow and narrowed the gap at 13-14 score position but few back-to-back mistakes triggered the collapse.
At this stage, the opposing shuttlers geared up and left their rivals far behind with a distinctive margin of 21-16.
Marius and Allen, who teamed up especially for this event, maintained this rhythm also in the second set as they smacked their opponents down in even more impressive manner.
They kept moving on steadily and enjoyed comfortable lead throughout the crucial segment.
The US shuttlers made every effort to match their speed but kept trailing behind until game point situation.
They lost first half with 11-7 and then never came out of this deficit. They had to surrender after reading concluding figure of 21-13.
