MBBC Jr International: Ruben Castellanos sends Luke Pearce packing in Boy’s Singles U17 semi-final
Guatemala’s Ruben Castellanos proved to be a dark horse as he stunned everyone by putting up staggering performance on court as he thrashed his higher ranked rival Luke Pearce of England in the Boy’s Singles U17 semi-final at the 2012 MBBC Jr International
in USA, on Wednesday, July 18.
The impressive Castellanos, who is un-seeded player in the championship, continued his giant killing run by showing his gutsy skills and easily overpowered Pearce who was the top seed in Men’s Singles draw of the event.
The lower ranked Castellanos was confident and focused on court as he did not spare any chance for his English rival to put up good show and crushed him in straight games with a terrific margin on the score board.
The top seeded Pearce, on the contrary, could not play his normal game as he failed to match the speed of his lower ranked opponent. He also committed many unforced mistakes and eventually knelt down to Castellanos in a humiliating manner.
In the first game, it was Castellanos who did not show any mercy to his English challenger and took an early lead by employing his aggressive skills.
The higher ranked Pearce failed to maintain his winning performance against Castellanos and remained struggling on score board until the end of opening half.
After the mid-game interval, the in-form Castellanos continued pushing his rival on back foot without putting in extra effort.
Castellanos sailed smoothly in opening set of this contest and easily bagged it with an inspiring 21-14 score on the board.
In the second game, Castellanos was in a completely different mood as he played attacking badminton from opening points and took a tremendous lead on score board until the mid-game break.
After the interval, Pearce tried his level best to stop the aggressive run of his opponent but failed badly as he could not remain positive on court.
In the meanwhile, Castellanos was focused in his play and he easily notched the second game with a wonderful margin of 21-9.
The lofty Castellanos punished Pearce in straight games with a staggering 21-14 and 21-9 margin on the score board.
