MBBC Jr International: Shirleen Chen dominates Cristel Reyes to grab Girl’s Singles U15 title
USA’s talented player Shirleen Chen proved her elevated class when she put up staggering show in the final contest and claimed the Girl’s Singles U15 title after beating Guatemala’s Cristel Reyes at the 2012 MBBC Jr International in USA, on Thursday, July 19.
The un-seeded Shirleen played remarkable badminton in all of her matches and maintained her impressive performance in the title match when she toppled Cristel in a staggering fashion.
The in-form Shirleen was on a different level in the final battle when she did not show any respect to her opponent and easily outplayed Cristel in straight games with a completely one-sided score on the board.
On the other hand, Cristel failed to maintain her rhythm in against Shirleen as she could not cope up with the speed of her rival and also failed to place her shots effectively. She lost the final match in two sets with a humiliating margin.
Right from the initial stage of opening set, Shirleen played with impressive precision as she did not commit any mistake in taking an early lead.
The impressive local shuttler cheered her home fans by playing at her maximum speed and she established a wonderful lead on score board until the end of first half.
After the break, Shirleen continued her winning performance without facing any problem from her rival and easily wrapped up opening set in a fascinating fashion by putting up a tremendous 21-9 figure on the score board.
However, Cristel played good badminton in opening rallies of second game as she matched the pace of rallies but failed to take even a small lead as her rival was in full control.
Shirleen did not lose her grip over the pace of the game as she was quick in taking the bird early from all areas and managed to take a reasonable lead until the break.
After the interval, the local shuttler continued playing positive badminton without losing her focus and clinched the second set with a huge 21-13 score on the board.
The aggressive Shirleen won the title by ending up the final battle in a spectacular manner with a commanding margin of 21-9 and 21-13.
