MC-Carnaghi VILLA CORTESE defeats Volley BERGAMO by 3-1 in a CEV match
MC-Carnaghi VILLA CORTESE had a match with Volley BERGAMO on February 23 which was a part of the semi-finals of the 2012 CEV Volleyball Champions League- Women which is currently being hosted in many of the European cities.
The competition between the two sides was hosted in the Italian city of Castellanza and took four sets to reach it close at the end of which CORTESE was able to earn a win.
The scoreboard showed the following final set scores: 21-25, 25-15, 25-20 and 25-19.
The coach of the home team, Marcello Abbondanza, shared his views about the match in the following words at the press conference conducted after the match reached its close, “I hope that with this victory we can get back some self-confidence. We want to
continue our dream in this year’s Champions League and Baku is our final destination. We know that it is still a long way to the final four because Volley BERGAMO is a side that always fights until the very end.”
The first set of the match saw the Volley Bergamo come out strong and take the lead from the start of the set. The dominance that the BERGAMO squad was able to maintain was based on the superior serves of the team as well as a strong attack. Both these aspects
combined together to keep the pressure on CORTESE which enabled to BERGAMO to win the opening frame at 25-21.
The second set of the game saw the CORTESE side rally themselves together and step up their game to provide a significant challenge to their rivals. As a result, CORTESE was able to get hold of the lead early on and once they had the4 advantage, they sped
on to tie the match by winning the second frame at 25-15.
After the win of the second set, the confidence generated took the CORTESE squad to two more wins in which the BERGAMO squad could not manage to overcome the strong play of their rivals. As a result, the third and the fourth sets were won at 25-20 and 25-19
respectively.
