MCA appoints Ajit Agarkar as captain for the Vijay Hazare Trophy - Cricket News Update
For the first time in his 16-year-long cricketing career, former India fast bowler http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ajit-Agarkar-c972 has been given a chance to lead a side as a full time captain. The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) on Tuesday named him the captain
of the state team for the upcoming http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Vijay-Samuel-Hazare-c95227 Trophy.
Agarkar, the 34-year-old right-arm medium pace bowler from Maharashtra, has been the stand in captain before but this would be his first ever stint as a regular captain with any team, domestic or international.
Just a couple of months ago, the medium pace bowler was in a row with the management of the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) as he was forced to leave the team in Cuttack after being overlooked for a Ranji Trophy match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Orissa-c828
in November last year. In the aftermath, Agarkar withdrew from the squad for the entire http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kumar-Shri-Ranjitsinhji-c71870 season.
However, he met the MCA officials – the MCA vice-president, Ratnakar Shetty, chairman of selectors, Milind Rege, and associations’ secretary Nitin Dalal – earlier this month and reconciled his differences.

"Once the MCA decided to close the topic after explanations, it was a purely a cricketing decision that we had to take,” said Mumbai chief selector http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Milind-Dattareya-Rege-c76307 while speaking to the Times of India. “Under the circumstances, Agarkar
is the best man to lead the side, as we need somebody with his kind of experience to lead this young team," he added further.
"I just wanted to come back and play again. It wasn't too surprising to be named the captain. I led http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 last year in the One-dayers when Jaffer was unavailable. It's an honour to lead Mumbai," said Agarkar when reached for a comment
